Electronic On-Board Recorder (EOBR) Compliance
Electronic On-Board Recorders (EOBR) connect directly to a vehicles engine control module and can monitor and record all sorts of information regarding a vehicle and it’s driver. Anything from speeding, idling and hard braking to electronic driver logs for Hours of Service Compliance and electronic Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR).
EOBR Compliant Device
Governmental regulation of EOBRs have been established by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and are identified in the FMCSA’s rule 395.15. This rule requires compliant EOBR devices to identify the following:
- Drivers name and all driver records
- Total hours worked for the most recent 8 consecutive days.
- Total hours worked for the prior consecutive 8 days
- Time, date and location for each change of duty status
- Audible or visual alerts when the driver is nearing their driving limit. The warning must be delivered at least 30 minutes in advance
- Comments regarding fueling, loading times, violations, waypoints, etc
When asked for the log information by law enforcement, drivers must also be able to immediately deliver the required information.

For a solution that is more than just a piece of hardware, look no further than USA Fleet Solutions. Our award winning EOBR device options, fleet management applications, and compliance consulting services are your company’s best tools in managing FMCSA regulations and compliance.
One of the most common questions we get regarding EOBR’s is about the timeline for EOBR Compliance and when companies should expect to have devices installed. The fact is that an EOBR device will limit your exposure to risk and save you in excess of 60% man-hours needed to administer driver logs… why would you want to delay?
DOT Compliance and Telematics System in One Package
If you operate a regional or long haul trucking business you know the importance of keeping up to date with Department of Transportation (DOT) driver and vehicle regulations. You also work hard to operate your fleet in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
EOBR telematics programs help drivers stay current with their hours without running into violations. Fleet managers will find it easier for scheduling drivers routes based on “real” time before the drivers run out of hours and these programs will help to reduce CSA violations.
